North East Harm Outside The Home Conference 2024
What a wonderful day it was! Harm outside the home in its various guises, being discussed, deconstructed and then practical tools to problem solve. I went away feeling re-energised and inspired by all involved! ” Feedback from our 2nd North East Conference on Young People & Harm Outside the Home was top tier, with delegates leaving the event feeling inspired and motivated. We shared updates to our LinkedIn site on the day, which brought together police and children’s services partners from across the north east region to focus on young people at risk of exploitation and harm outside the home.
Professor Carlene Firmin led the event as morning keynote speaker to share the latest in Contextual Safeguarding research and stayed to participate in a morning speakers’ Q&A panel, together with harmful sexual behaviour expert academics Professor Kieran McCartan, Dr Sophie King-Hill and Kelly Agudelo from the police Vulnerability Knowledge Practice Programme (VKPP).
In the afternoon, delegates responded emotionally to Ivison Trust mum and young person speakers who shared their lived experiences of exploitation. Sean Monaghan of SaferNow discussed what works for successful safety planning and Adur & Worthing Councils shared a local authority good practice perspective.
A huge thank you to all our speakers and to delegates for their participation in this fantastic event.
